UTTC Masters Athletes of the Year
Marie-Jose LeJour and Mike Sherar
Duncan Greenshields presents the plaque to Mike
The Female Masters Athlete of the Year is MARIE-JOSEE LEJOUR!!
M-J had an unbelievable year, competitively in 2014. How does 1 Indoor
CR, 2 Outdoor CR, and 1 Outdoor WR sound? Yeah, pretty good to me too.
M-J is so good she is ranked #1 in the world in the Weight throw, #5 in
the Discus, #7 in the Hammer, #8 in the SP, and #17 in the Javelin. This
all round greatness in all the throws culminated with her setting a WR
in the Throws Pentathlon (Hammer, SP, Discuss, Javelin, Weight) of 4,047
pts, beating by over 300 pts a record set in 2001. Her CRs this year
were set in the Indoor Weight Throw (17.64), Outdoor Discus (48.40), and
Outdoor Weight Throw (16.77).
The Male Masters Athlete of the Year is MIKE SHERAR!!
What can you say about an athlete like Mike. He is the complete middle
distance runner. He’s ranked #2 in the world in the 800m, #3 in the 400,
and #10 in the 1500m. At the US Masters Championships in July, he won
gold in the 400m, gold in the 800m, and silver in a hard fought 1500m.
He was also a very key player in 2 M50 record setting relay teams his
year. He was an important part of the M50 4×400 team (along with UTTC
Paul Osland) who set an Indoor CR . Then this past July he ran the
anchor leg (again along with Paul Osland) to set a WR in the 4x800m for
M50 of 8:36.39, beating the existing record by almost 3 full seconds.
And just to cap everything off Mike set a new M50 800m record of 2:01.06
in June in Hamilton
